School Opening
The Halifax Regional School Board (HRSB) is pleased to welcome all students back to school on Thursday, September 2, 2010 with the exception of students attending Waverley Memorial Elementary who will start school on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.
The HRSB has received a number of questions about the opening of school given the unseasonably warm temperatures and high humidity. The decision to close schools rests with the school board although we have consulted with both the Department of Education (DOE) and health officials on possible precautions to take given the current weather conditions.
At this time there is no province-wide advice or directive to close schools. As a result, HRSB schools will be open on Thursday. Parents and guardians are always advised to use discretion when sending their children to school.
School principals have been advised to consider ways to increase ventilation and ensure that students and staff stay well hydrated, and in the shade during breaks.
